ABOUT CRAIG FINEMAN
It's hard to pick up a copy of The Surfer's Journal without finding an archive image from Craig Fineman nestled somewhere in it's pages. However aside from his images little information about the photographer exists. Throughout the 70s and 80s, he was shooting up and coming surfers around California like Shawn Stussy, the Campbell Brothers and Russ Short. Fineman's photographs are unashamedly beautiful regardless of their context, before moving to Oahu in later life he worked extensively in the fledgeling surf and skate industries, shooting from the beach on surf trips or the edge of the bowl at the area's famous skateparks. Craig sadly passed away in the early 2000's but luckily his archive is in the capable hands of the Campbell Bros who helped Dashwood with their 2014 book and poster series "Pools", showcasing stunning black and white images Craig shot in the backyard pools of his youth.
